Prompt
You are in a four-person group for a second-year sociology course. The final report is worth 30% of the grade and is due at 9 a.m. tomorrow. The syllabus states that using AI writing tools for any part of the report is an academic offense, and that every group member shares the penalty. At 10 p.m., while combining the sections, you notice that one teammate's section reads very differently from his earlier drafts, and a free online checker says it was likely written by AI. When you message him, he says he was sick all week, that he only used AI to clean up his own notes, and that these checkers are often wrong. The other two members say there is no time to rewrite it and want to submit the report as it is. What would you do?

How to approach this question
This MMI station tests whether you'll uphold academic integrity under deadline pressure when a teammate's AI-written section may break the course rules and the penalty falls on everyone. Name the people affected: your teammate, the other two members, you, and the professor. Be honest about what you know and don't know, since a free online checker can be wrong and your teammate has offered an explanation. Weigh submitting as is, rewriting the section tonight, contacting the professor, or asking your teammate to show his original notes. Decide clearly, and explain how you'd treat your teammate fairly. When a follow-up changes the incentives, show that your decision rests on principle rather than on what protects you.
