How to approach this question
This panel question tests whether you can see how a society's beliefs about addiction shape the way it treats people through its laws, its funding and the stigma that stops people from asking for help. Lay out both views fairly: calling addiction a choice puts the weight on personal responsibility, while calling it circumstance puts the weight on forces like poverty, trauma and environment. Then show how each view leads to different policies, such as punishment or support, and to different conversations within a family. Consider that the truth may be a mix, with choices made under pressures nobody chose. Take a clear position on whether the view matters and why, and keep your language respectful toward people living with addiction and other mental health challenges.
