Building Your Canadian Medical School List

Canada has relatively few medical schools, and each has strong provincial preferences, distinct prerequisites, and its own MCAT policy, so where you apply matters enormously. Scholr helps you build a list that reflects where you are genuinely competitive, guided by mentors and former admissions evaluators who know the Canadian landscape.

How It Works

01

Profile assessment

We map your GPA, MCAT, experiences, and province of residence to see exactly how competitive you are and where you stand.

02

School research and fit

Your mentor researches programs against your profile, including in-province advantage, prerequisites, and each school's MCAT policy.

03

Build your list

Together we build a balanced list across in-province and out-of-province schools, with enough range to protect your cycle without wasting applications.

04

Refine and finalize

We pressure-test the list against deadlines, requirements, and your goals, then finalize a strategy you can apply to with confidence.

Frequently asked questions

How many medical schools are there in Canada?

There are 17 medical schools in Canada, spread across the provinces, each with its own admissions requirements and preferences. That small number makes a smart, well-researched list especially important.

How much does province of residence matter?

A great deal. Many Canadian schools admit heavily or almost entirely from within their province, so your residency is one of the biggest factors in where you are competitive. We build it into your list from the start.

Should I also apply to US medical schools?

For many Canadian applicants it is worth considering, since it widens your options. We help you weigh the added cost and requirements against your profile and goals.

Do all Canadian schools require the MCAT?

No. Some require it, some weigh it lightly, and a few do not use it at all. We factor each school's MCAT policy into your list so you focus your energy where it counts.

When should I build my school list?

Ideally before applications open, so you can confirm prerequisites and plan around each school's timeline. We build your list early and refine it as your cycle takes shape.
