Whether physicians are overpaid

This panel interview question tests whether you can discuss physician pay fairly and without defensiveness, even though it touches a profession you hope to join. Take the critics' argument seriously first, including what physician pay costs patients, taxpayers and the health system, and how it compares with the pay of nurses and other staff. Then set out the factors on the other side: years of training, student debt, long hours, heavy responsibility, and what it takes to draw people into hard specialties and underserved places. Acknowledge that the answer may differ between specialties and between countries. Land on a measured view and say what would change your mind, which shows the panel you can reason honestly about a question where your own future income is at stake.
