Prompt
You are the office manager at a 60-person accounting firm, and you help the owner with hiring. Two junior positions drew 400 applications, so the owner bought an artificial intelligence tool that ranks résumés and automatically rejects the bottom 80%. While spot-checking its work, you notice that it rejected every applicant with a gap of more than a year in their work history. One of them is a woman you worked with at a previous job. She was excellent, and her gap was the two years she spent caring for her father before he died. The owner tells you the tool saved him forty hours. He says reviewing every application by hand is not an option before the hiring deadline on Friday. What would you do?

How to approach this question
This MMI station tests whether you'll challenge an efficient AI tool that's quietly excluding people, including caregivers, when your boss is happy with it and the deadline is close. Name who is affected: rejected applicants with legitimate gaps, the firm that may be missing strong candidates, and an owner under real time pressure. Consider raising your concern with the owner using your spot-check evidence, and be careful about how your personal connection to one applicant affects your credibility. Weigh options such as reviewing only the rejected applicants with gaps, adjusting the filter, or moving the deadline. Make a clear recommendation. If the station defends the tool with statistics, separate an average across a group from a fair judgment about each individual.
